A Great Lesson to Learn From 80s Comedy Movies

I love comedy movies from the 1980s.  They just make me feel good.  There is just something different about the 80s comedy.  I guess there are a lot of things that make them unique and appealing to me.

The other night while watching Club Paradise I put my finger on one of the reasons I love so many of the 80s comedy movies.

In 80s comedies the good guys stay loose, laugh and make jokes in the face of aggressors and collectivist jerks.

Just take a look at some of them – Ghostbusters, Stripes, Caddy Shack, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Blues Brothers…the list goes on forever.

What about Chris Knight in Real Genius?  Despite the underhanded, statist, sell-out jackass of a professor always busting his balls and making life as difficult as possible, the good guy keeps it loose. He doesn’t let the bastard get him down.  He keeps his humor and wins the day.

Then there is is this gem of a scene…

It makes you feel good, right?  It’s refreshing isn’t it?  It’s more than that.  It’s a damn good lesson.

A lesson to take away from 80s comedies

Every single day good people go out in the world and face all sorts of jackasses, aggressors, sheep, zombies, statists and other assholes.   These are the kinds of people who feel compelled to mess with people just trying to live their lives.

It could be a bully kid, a jerk boss, an asshole driver or a loud mouth meter maid with an attitude.

Or it could be an ultra macho cop,  a local institution or a politician.

Don’t let these kinds of people hinder your happiness.  These people love when they can take away your laughter.  These herds are out to trample the positive energy of the individual.

Maybe this is what they mean by psychic vampires?  Who knows?

All I know is that these types are miserable.  They have an empty spot in them and they gain some satisfaction from messing with you.  What they want more than anything is to crush your spirits.

Don’t give them the satisfaction.  Keep your spirits up.  Keep your laughter.

Letting the bastards get you down empowers them.  When you keep your humor despite all their forms of aggression, you disarm them.  It’s a weapon in and of itself.

So, go watch a great 80s comedy and get that feeling.

Here’s to the power of humor and laughter.

Pass it on...
