I was having a conversation this morning. Just two people having some coffee and shooting the breeze. My friend was mentioning how she was inconvenienced greatly by a lengthy government policy regarding something very casual and not all that important. She mentioned that growing up in the early to mid 80s she never would have believed that this kind of regulation would be in place in America.
So that made me think and I asked her the following question:
Can you name one aspect of your life that the government does not touch?
If you can, please let me know via twitter – @BlackSheepRpt
If you can’t…
- How does it make you feel that you can’t think of any area of your life the government isn’t involved in some manner?
- Do you think that is the way free people should live in a free country? Do think America is still allowing its people to live freely?
- Do think the government should have a role that touches every aspect of your life? If yes, why? If not, how much should government be involved in a free individual’s life?
- Would you like to see government’s role reduced? If no, why not? If yes, why and to what degree?
- Does this concern or scare you some?
In my opinion, it is sad that this question even needs to be posed in a serious manner. Americans are supposed to be free people. The founding principle was liberty. That means individual liberty, economic liberty, social liberty. Liberty first. Liberty above all.
In America, another value is privacy rights. Our home is our castle and our personal lives are that exactly. Personal.
So I pose this question to all who may read this as a quick thought experiment.
