Nice work framing the "big game" in its proper cultural context: it's a game, fans get excited, companies sell stuff, and media hype is over the top. Taking the 10,000 foot view is a delicate operation to be sure.

This i agree with. i will admit, i have broken the law, the reasons were to an extent beyond my control at the time but i accept responcibilty for not taking measures years before.
i digress
i was put on probation after a short prison term. immiedetly i began straightening my life, however every week i had to check in at probation. the very first thing one would notice going here was a sign that said videa recording devices were illegal. why is this? sure, they had survailence equipment, but once your in that little office with the po officer, what then? are we recorded then? we dont know so how can i be sure i am safe? my minor crime did not warrent what to me verged on bullying. it god so bad i had to start recording the po officers when they came to my home randomly. one reffered to me as a.homo sexual somply because grafitti was on the walls leading to my apartment. my actaul PO herself acted in two ways, when acompanied by men, she was often cival, but when her female officer would join her, it changed.completely. i have 4 tapes of an officer humilaiting me and boasting loudly my past. at the time i lived in a group home while recovering (not drugs or booze related bit mental health) everybody heard these things. private information, being told she would send me to the state hospitol or other residential treatment centers.simply because my no maam sounded ignorant when in all truth she was madbi called her maam. all recorded. i had at the time a thousand things going on, and it wasnt until the last second did i almost stand up for myself. then somebody told me the consequences of doing so. my PO had at the time, the very right to put me back in jail on a whim, making it hard for ke to get out. i could not go back because mental health reasons and i had a young child. fighting it at the time would be more trouble then it is worth.
i believe the system purpously makes it tough for people to record poloce activity, because it relies heavily on police and their seemingly brutal attitudes to keep the public in fear. notice we all turn our heads when they go by. standing up for ourselves is not what this government wants... this is just yet another small tactic they use.

btw, i mailed a can of dog food to that PO officer years later. if only i could have recorded that...
