On Knowing Who The Vice President Is & The Public School System

public education3 On Knowing Who The Vice President Is & The Public School System

I watched this video of public schools kids being asked simple questions about history, geography and government.  These kids couldn’t answer the simplest of questions. The worst part is that they chuckled that they didn’t have a clue.

Don’t get me wrong. I went to public school.

I did very well because I am just wired to want to learn.  My wife and my parents to this day ask me if my brain ever takes a break.

I’m not saying I am a genius.  I just have a thirst for knowledge, and it didn’t stop when I graduated.  However, I could tell that the public school system was not doing a good job for many kids in my school.

Going back to the video, these kids did not know the Vice President of their own country.  No idea. It may as well have been a random guy from the phone book. Actually, we’d probably do a lot better if that’s how we chose our elected officials. But anyway.

Why Does Knowing Who Joe Biden is Matter?

Why would it matter if these kids knew who the Vice President is?  In fact, in a way it would be a better thing if Joe Biden were to walk by 50,000 school kids and none of them knew who he was or treated him with an ounce of concern.  There is much too much deification of politicians.

So, in a way, it really doesn’t matter if the 10th grade kid knows who Joe Biden is. In fact, in that same way, it probably doesn’t matter I know who Joe Biden is. After all, Joe Biden doesn’t know me and he certainly doesn’t give a damn about me.  He definitely doesn’t serve me.

The Vice Presidents and Presidents will come and go.  None of them will care about me or you.  They will all be hand picked front runners acting as front man for big shot interests behind the scenes.

Then why is it important for these kids to know who the VP is?

  • It’s important for people to have a general awareness of the world they live in.  Self-reliant, capable individuals need a level of understanding of the world and how things work.

So, why is it so sad that these kids didn’t know who the VP was or what war gave America its independence?

  • This shows that these kids don’t care about themselves enough to want to be sharp individuals preparing to be strong men and women. I get it. They’re kids. But the expectations should be way higher. The schools are failing them and their parents need to take this as a wake up call.

If you are a school kid or a parent, do not let this happen to you or your kids.  Young adults need to have the habit of informing and educating themselves.  They need to be able to empower themselves and have an understanding of history, government, money, the economy, etc.    If they don’t, the politicians they don’t know are going to treat them even worse than they treat American citizens now.

Watch the video and decide for yourself.
