World Trade Center Mosque: Republican’s Shameful Response

By now nearly everyone is aware of the “biggest” news story in America.  Muslims want to build a mosque somewhere near the site where the 9/11 attacks took place. Regarding this issue, President Obama respected the constitution and liberty for the first time since he has been in office by making clear that the Muslims have the right to build the mosque.

Many Americans, but mostly Republicans are outraged.  They demand it be stopped. However, the it would be irresponsible to say that it is just the Republicans.  Even Democrats like Harry Reid have broken away from President Obama and now opposes the mosque. This is only fitting since he has a nearly perfect record of ignoring the constitution.  It’s telling that Harry Reid and Republicans are in agreement on this one.  If you find yourself on the same side of an argument as Harry Reid, it might be time to rethink your position.

So, in one of the biggest knee-jerk political reactions in decades, here is what Republicans are saying:

  • WTC site is sacred ground
  • This is the Muslims planting a flag of victory
  • The Muslims are shoving this in our face
  • This is disrespect to the victims of 9/11
  • Americans and specifically the right don’t want the mosque to be built

Here is the simple response.  Tough!

Get over it. Grow up.  It is not about what people want.

Why The Republican Response to the World Trade Center Mosque is Shameful

This is a matter of principle. The principle is liberty.  The response from Republicans and those on the right is shameful. It is completely un-American. Here is why:

  • Republicans are advocating ignoring the Constitution of NY and the US.
  • The people who want to build the mosque are American citizens.
  • The land is the private property of these American citizens.
  • These American citizens have the right to practice their religion.
  • These American citizens did not have anything to do with the 9/11 attacks.
  • Republicans are clearly demonstrating the Muslim bias promoted by the media.
  • Republicans and those on the right are equating all of the Muslim religion with terrorism.
  • The right is making the war on terror the war on the Muslim religion.
  • The Republicans are demanding that the federal government break the law on it’s behalf in the name of their emotions.

So let’s summarize what Republicans and those on the right are advocating.  Because the right wing possesses misguided anger toward the Muslim religion, they want the government to be their bully for hire and use force to stop American citizens who own property from building a place of worship (on their own land) and therefore infringe on their right to practice their religion.

That is insecure, misguided, ignorant and shameful. Republicans are demanding that the constitution be stomped on in the name of their thoughtless anger.
